Introduction
WorldClient Pro
version 2 is a web-based email solution designed to offer users full
email functionality through the use of their favorite web browser.
All of their email folders reside on the server so that they have
access to everything as if they were at the office. In fact, because
of WorldClient Pro's extensive feature set, users can use it as their
only email client instead of in addition to others. WorldClient Pro
can easily hold its own against traditional email clients while
providing the added bonus of enabling users to access their email
from anywhere at anytime.
A few Application ideas:
WorldClient Pro allows mobile employees to access their email from anywhere. Remember, WorldClient Pro is not workstation dependent so "mobile" can also mean traveling across the building!
ISPs can use WorldClient Pro to offer web-based email services to their customer base.
WorldClient Pro is ideal for the web-based email providers that make their living from advertising banners!
A few Administrator benefits:
No need to configure and maintain individual mail clients.
Customize the look of WorldClient Pro to your corporate needs or the needs of your customers.
Monitor the use of disk space along with who, what, when and why!
Complete web-based remote administration. Edit any and all of your WorldClient Pro settings (and your users' settings). Create, delete, and monitor accounts. Kill a user's session, view WorldClient Pro's log file, and more. All from anywhere anytime.
A few User benefits:
Full email functionality wherever you find a browser.
WorldClient Pro interface is available in 15 languages.
Personal and global address books, folders, filters, send/receive file attachments, collect mail from multiple accounts, and almost everything else you might need.
System
Requirements
WorldClient Pro
is a multi-threaded Win32 application that runs as a system service
on Windows 9x and NT 4/2000 or later and requires Winsock 2 or later.
WorldClient Pro also requires access to an SMTP server for outgoing
mail, and, if you want to provide service to users outside of your
local network, a permanent Internet connection with a static IP
address is also required.
The amount of required system resources is contingent upon your particular needs: your number of WorldClient Pro users, the level of email traffic you wish to support, the speed of your connection, and so forth. However, as a starting point we recommend at least a Pentium class computer with 16 MB RAM for Windows 9x and 32 MB RAM for NT/2000. We also recommend a minimum of 20 MB free hard disk space.
Installation
There are
several things that you will need to know during the installation process:
Your name, company, and email address.
Your Registration/License key. If this field is left blank at the time of installation, the evaluation version will be installed and you can specify your key later.
If MDaemon is installed on the same machine then you may choose whether to enable WorldClient/MDaemon integration.
WorldClient's default domain. If using MDaemon integration this will be unavailable-WorldClient will use MDaemon's primary domain as the default domain.
The port on which you want WorldClient to listen for http requests (default is 2000).
The host name or IP address of the SMTP server that will be used for outgoing mail.
The host name of the default POP server. When synchronization is on, this is the POP server to which WorldClient will connect to authenticate users attempting to sign in. This is also the default setting displayed in the "POP Server" field when a user creates a new Mailbox.
Services
WorldClient Pro
and its Administration Server run as system services in Windows 9x
and NT 4/2000 or later. Although more limited than in NT 4/2000,
system services in Windows 9x allow WorldClient Pro to run when no
users are logged on to the network.
Starting/Stopping
WorldClient Pro™
To stop or
restart WorldClient Pro, click "Stop
WorldClient"
or "Start
WorldClient"
in the WorldClient program group located under "Programs"
on the Windows Start menu.
In Windows NT 4 or later, you can stop or restart the WorldClient Pro service (and/or the Administration Server) by going to the Control Panel/Service dialog and selecting the WorldClient Pro or WorldClient Admin service. You may start either of them from the command line by entering the command: "net start [ServiceName]" to start it, or "net stop [ServiceName]" to stop it.
Example:
net
start WCAdmin
net
start WorldClient
The WorldClient Pro service can also be started and stopped from within the Administration Utility and the Remote Administration web interface.
Note |
In Windows 9x, you will not see a visible indication of whether or not the WorldClient Pro Service is running. To check the status of the WorldClient Pro Service you must use the Administration Utility or the Remote Administration web interface. |
WorldClient
Pro Service
If your platform
is NT 4 or later and you specify a path to a network shared drive
anywhere in WorldClient Pro, you will need to change the WorldClient
Pro Service from a System Account to a User Account with
administrative privileges (Local System Account will not provide
access to these drives). This is also required when using a
WorldClient Pro Add
User utility
that needs access to any network resources.
To change this setting in NT 4:
Go to the Service Manager located in Control Panel.
Double click the WorldClient Pro service.
In the Log On As: section, change the service from a System Account to a User Account.
This account must be given administrative privileges; Local System Account will not provide access to network resources.
